• Rotterdam Floating Pavilion, the floating pavilion that could resemble future cities

  • European countries, Netherlands in particular, will be vulnerable to the rising sea levels, thanks to the harm we’ve inflicted on our planet. As a solution to an impending doom, Dutch firms Deltasync and PublicDomain Architects have come up with a city platform design that literally rises with the tide! So, this concept simply keeps a flooded city at bay. Called the Rotterdam Floating Pavilion, these were built in 2012 as a demonstration project and include bubble-shaped transparent domes.

With three similar spheres connected to each other, the Rotterdam Floating Pavilion will stay put at the city’s Rijnhaven waterfront area till 2015 and work as a place to exhibit the concept itself as well as exhibits on climate science and resource conservation.
