• Your Mobile Expectations by Olafur Eliasson: A unique BMW vehicle

Believe it or not this bizarre shaped structure is actually a car! And not just any car, it is actually BMW’s hydrogen-powered race cars under a sheath of steel mesh, stainless steel mirrors, and many layers of ice. Created by Danish artist Olafur Eliasson and sponsored by BMW this car highlights the connection between cars and global climate change. Christened the Your Mobile Expectations, this car was part of BMW’s Art Car Series that invites artists to modify the luxury cars. The artist took three years to develop the Your Mobile Expectations project. It required immense hard work including removing the body of a BMW H2 and replacing it with a skin of steel mesh and reflective metal. After that, around 2000 liters of water was sprayed over the new skin, forming a delicate layer of ice atop the reflective material.

The car was displayed in a special walk-in freezer room at the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich. The artist hopes this project will remind viewers of the relation between the vehicles they drive and the planet they live. Well, I don’t know about that, but this structure definitely makes for a unique piece of car art.
