The Meguru electric car with traditional Japanese design

Meguru-electric-car-1.jpg Overflowing with traditional Japanese design, crafts and techniques, this little three-wheeled contraption is sure eye-catching and can leave a spectator a bit confused at first; trying to figure out what type of vehicle category it belongs to. A rickshaw-type vehicle, though referred to as an electric car, the Meguru is an antique design, taking up the modern forms of technology.

The body of the Meguru is iron coated with “urushi” (lacquer), with real bamboo flooring and a door in the shape of a traditional Japanese fan made of “washi” or Japanese paper. The car, developed by Yodogawa Group and Kinki Knives Industries Corporation will find its place in towns like Kyoto and Nara. Costing around a million yen ($10,000), the Meguru will charge up in just two hours and boasts a drivable range of 25 miles and a top speed of 25mph. Only the Japanese could come up with something like this, tradition and technology, hand-in-hand, the Meguru.
