Nicholas Holland has designed a new concept bike that is a two-wheeler and looks extremely futuristic. The design appears as though a giant loop is passing through the front wheel. It makes use of magnetic field there by reducing the friction and making the vehicle much more energy efficient. With the forward and backward movement, the field spins the wheel and also rotates the axis when steering. The designer has taken care of the ergonomic aspects to solve the urban commuting woes.

Snackbot- A robot that serves Snacks!

Snackbot.jpg Some never tire of design innovations. A team at the Carnegie Mellon University have designed an autonomous mobile robot. ‘Snackbot’ as it’s called is a interesting looking robot that has been made for research in robotics, design and behavioral science. But most of all. As the name hints, it has been primarily been designed to serve snacks. It is the size of a small human that rolls around on wheels and delivering the snacks to the faculty and students of the university. Promoting a deep study into human-robotic interaction, Snackbot is interesting, but in my sincere opinion, not really required.

Geo Cocktail Table is complicatedly simplistic in design!

table1.jpg

Now this is one design that’s complicated and simple at the same time. Made of pine and even mahogany wood, this cocktail table designed by Vito Selma appreciates the art of line drawings. The designer calls it a play of lines, taking inspiration from ‘string art’ that is the arrangement of lines between points to create to create a geometrical pattern. He beautifully plays along with wood, testing in fact the limitations of wood by bending it in a sort of a Hegemonic manner to form a geometrical pattern. Hence it is called a Geo cocktail table. It is also a green product since it uses recycled wooden or unwanted parts of arms and legs of chairs.

The least a designer can do is work around the design a bit. And this is what designer Paul Sandip has done to the simple clothesline clip. By playing around the concept of perception this single piece injection molded component is made of recycled plastic. The design is elevated by making it possible to be used by both the sides. This daily life utility product is truly a simple and useful innovation.
