You know how fussy children can be and not everything we do they are pleased with, for example trying to get their teeth checked or using a steel thermometer to check their temperature. This group of designers thought of a way to appeal children to stay calm and came up with the Thermoplay. It looks like a toy but it encourages natural temperature measurement through play. It is styled like a stethoscope and has been designed for monitoring children at home with minor ailments like a cold or flu. It has a screen that displays an emoticon which changes to indicate a child’s condition. Interesting one.

This could be the answer to all worries while travelling or sitting in a movie hall… this is the Paperclip Armrest. This design is created by James Lee. He made a dual-level armrest used between seats which enable the arms of two adjacent occupants to share the same vertical space without clashing. It also increases comfort in tight seating arrangements. Nice one.

This design literally looks like some futuristic mono-drive vehicle. It is shaped like a big egg with three wheels in round ball shapes. You can sit in it like one of those cycles used by the mall cops and navigate to your destination. Like the Nano in India, this would be ideal for the roads of crowded China or Bangkok! It is designed by Robin Wang.

We all know how boring it is to brush the teeth but it is necessary nonetheless. Designer Lee Dong Ho has designed a cool brush ideal for children. It is called the Time Toothbrush which has a timer of three minutes – the correct amount of time required to actually brush your teeth. It is measured by an analog spring and the timer is activated with a tap against the bathroom bench which contracts with the impact and returns to its original position after three minutes. Once this happens, a timer goes out and you can stop brushing.

Contemporary furniture is so much like abstract, modern art. It is very hard to perceive the real purpose of its existence. However, that doesn’t stop designers to think out (if not leap a mile off) the box. Camiel Weijenberg and Talenia Phua Gajardo, known together as Makemei, boast some really intriguing furniture designs. With their background in architecture, interior design and furniture design they have some super unique stuff to show off. The AJ Double chair are twisted seats or sofas or the likes, the RD Table is a vertically prominent desk and a spherical and eye-catching coffee table are designs that will make you think… hard.

It features full colour LCD screen, wireless communication with Sony DSLR high impact outer shell, rubber coated shutter trigger and spun steel outer shell. Cute. This design is a pencil that can also be used as a clip. It comes in different colours and is quite simple. While not using the pencil, you can clip together some sheets of papers. The edge of the pencil is shaped like the clip and a decent amount of lead is reserved for the writing purposes. This was designed by Miguel Vieira Baptista.

We have had them at home and in the cars and now here is the chance to take it to work. The Zweep is a hand-held vacuum cleaner and is very colourful in bright shades. It is easy to use by just rolling the switch forward to turn on and adjust the power accordingly. The concept was designed by Wenjamin Liang.

Everyone is trying to find out alternatives to power and some extremely bizarre than others. This design by NL Architects in Amsterdam is quite intriguing. It is called Power Flowers and is supposed to be ideal for crowded areas. It features a tree-like design and a vertical axis design that can produce energy with wind from any direction. It is intended as a tool that can be connected to smart grids and solar panels. It can also apparently be mount on any surface, anywhere – and by the looks of their de signs, seems almost everywhere.

Maria Bergstrom’s design for Kokoskokos is quite interesting but doesn’t make too much sense. It is a reminder of sorts but seems a little too complicated. There are leather covered buttons that can be paste don this clock like thing and when the time reaches your appointment, this button goes back to the storage plate. It doesn’t say if a sound comes out or anything. It was exhibited at the Stockholm Furniture Fair.

The grill cover can be used as a pan and the grate can take up two different positions depending on the heat requirement. It seems possible and definitely useful.
