Detroit winters get real chilly, and it’s those out on the streets without a roof over their heads and a place to call home who suffer the most. Veronika Scott, a Michigan based product design student, came up with the sleeping bag coat. Essentially a warm place to curl up during the nights and a portable warmth-providing coat-like wear during the day, this design was created keeping in mind the 18,000 street dwellers that face the winter frost every year in Detroit.
Self-heated, waterproof and multi-functional, the Elements Survival Coat uses Tyvec for the outer surface and synthetic and wool blend padding inside costing an overall $10. This might seem like building castles in the air yet again, though any place warm during the winter is a lot better than none.
Good job Veronika!
