Blending fashion and technology has given us many results which did not really affect, improve or influence our lives in any drastic way. But there are some cases like the ‘Subtle Subtitles’ where it has been a breakthrough of sorts. Subtle Subtitles helps adults with Ataxic Dysphonia also known as Dysarthria, to communicate. Subtle Subtitles Scarf is bought to life by Calum Pringle an Interactive Media Design student at Dundee University. This is a supportive and efficient product for anybody who has difficulties to converse clearly enough for others to comprehend. It works with a microphone inside the scarf that is connected to a laptop which sends the voice input to a website.
The communication aid can be worn with an iPod or iPhone which in turn makes the scarf look fashionable and is an attractive way of sporting a communication aid. The project is still in progress and not yet completed, however will feature at the Duncan of Jordanstone Degree Show in Dundee May 22nd – 30th. All in all it’s a job very well done.
