Imagine blending the work of the real artists of the by-gone era into what is new and trendy in fashion these days. It is like a mixture of the titans rather than a clash. A Japanese graduate of Royal Academy Antwerp Yuima Nakazato has created a conceptual fashion to focus on accessories and footwear inspired by the work of Leonardo da Vinci. His designs have a complete 3-D effect to wear something arty. His designs are defined as ‘delicate metallic precision sliced to bend and flex, paradoxical body armor in shimmering gold’. He uses ‘primitive material’ for his shoes such as wooden heel, natural leather and combines it with a futuristic shape. His accessories are based on Japanese Origami, ‘where 2-D becomes 3-D, when the jewelry is worn it takes a 3-D and removed it becomes a flat shape. This is also a primitive idea of living together with technological material’.
Yuima, 23, got this wild idea thanks to his parents who are both artists themselves; his mother is a jewelry designer and his father is a sculptor. He has already had some shows around Europe and in Tokyo now he is freelancing with another designer. But something tells me he doesn’t have to resort much to that for too long. He is also getting ready to design a costume for a famous Japanese musician. At this age, he has already got the fashion world in his grip with his new and unique idea. That’s where fashion always succeeds. Being original.
