Polaris Futurka kettle gets stylish and mod

polaris_futurka_kettle_1.jpg English tea and the frills attached to it are long forgotten in the modern fast paced world. Attune to the current trends, modernized kettles that let you catch your cuppa on the go are more practical and advisable. The Polaris Futurka fits the bill as a stylish and mod kettle. The one and a half liter jug uses open heating element to boil the water. Both Andrey Vostrikov and Nikolay Vorotnikov have used their talents on designing this piece. I like in black though.

Nintendo DS now a ceramic Sushi DiSh

Nintendo_DS_DiSh_1.jpg Nintendo gamers are going to love this simple dish because it's a take on their favorite console the DS. Designed by Jason Lui, it's a Sushi DiSh that reflects your love for the game. The designer also has paper plates compressed and made into the same design featured in his portfolio and I think that's awesome. I somehow am more loyal and biased towards Nintendo anyways. Maybe because my first console was the wonderful NES and not a PS and a PSP would make an awkward plate! Here's an idea, use the ceramic wonder for a formal, quirky Christmas dinner party and the disposable ones for a wild New Year's!

Rocking Kitchen Concepts at the Electrolux Kitchen Design Competition

Kitchen_Design_1.jpg Competition always brings out the best in you and the Electrolux Kitchen Design Competition brought out the best in three designers, naturally they won the top spot. The ever-pervasive space-crunch probably inspired the winner Marcello Zuffo to come up with the rotating kitchen that pivots on a central column. All the components of this kitchen can be reconfigured to suit the users need. Zuffo used the Electrolux ICON appliances throughout the kitchen; he used this as a base for his layout and coordinated the elements to the users interaction with them. Arçelik Divide&Cool modular fridge

Divide&Cool_1.jpg Hectic lifestyles and nuclear families gave birth to modular kitchens. Taking the idea to another level is the modular refrigerator. An alluring concept because its advocates space-saving techniques and technologies. Maximizing on the utility-quotient, the Arçelik Divide&Cool uses four differently sized modules that can be arranged in multiple ways. This not only promotes customization, it also takes into account the aesthetic appeal of the kitchen and individual preferences. For example, a vegetarian family may not require an ample deep freezer for meats. The modules can be customized for storage of particular foods at the ideal temperature and humidity of those foods, extending freshness and good taste.

Back to the Stone Age with the Pebbles Grill

pebbles_stone_grill_1.jpg Pleasant Sunday afternoons always make me nostalgic about the barbeque grills and open tandoor that my family used to indulge in when I was a kid. Things have changed drastically since then; we all have outgrown the need to indulge basically because no one has the time. Working up a fire and setting out the elaborate ingredients, not to forget the umpteen heaps of cheese and butter (totally wasted on the hips), all seem futile and time-consuming now…It's easier to order take-away! Designer Nathan Kwak seems to have something in common with me. He too likes grills and barbeque, although his is more of a traditional Korean stone grill fare. Pebbles is his take on the art of grilling food on stones, which is a typical Korean way of cooking. The device is a convenient portable grill that accommodates and adapts to the type of food it is cooking. Flexible in design, you can use it to wrap your fish and meats so that it cooks evenly.

Awesome Eco-Intelligent Kitchen is a geek's delight

eco-Intelligent_kitchen_1.jpg This is really an awesome concept for a kitchen. The Eco-Intelligent Kitchen is probably any geek's delight but will be the cleaning lady's nightmare. Since I can't make much of the Chinese script, let me describe this concept to you from the visuals. The kitchen area seems to consist of two parts, the shelf and the platform. The shelf area consists of the wine rack and the refrigerator. The fridge is further divided according to the meats, fruits and veggies, beverages and ice chilling. The wine rack looks to be this amazing array of slots that will house your wines at the perfect temperature. The kitchen is intelligent enough to switch off the lights and minimize the expenditure of power when not required.

Tajine 2015, a melting pot of flavors

tajine2015_1.jpg I have never been to Morocco, but I have heard a lot about their unique cooking style in the Tajine. Those familiar with the cooking shows on Discovery would have probably come across this delightful pot in one of the shows. Tommaso Colia's Tajine 2015 is a mixture between the Tajine and the wok. His iteration ensures that the steam moving inside the ceramic pot cooks the food. The steam goes up, and it is able to warm and cook the food, which is situated on the steel cap at the top. According to the designer, "The purpose of this design is to allow people to take care of their health and avoid adulteration; this is the first and meaningful step toward a good diet."

split-toaster-1.jpg Browning you bread is no longer a mundane task; you can add fun elements like faces and impression to it. However adding funk to the design of the toaster has never been ventured before. Move over Philips and Braun, designer Craig Strangward's concept Triplo toaster is here to challenge your rectangular facets. Besides the unique design, the toaster apparently hosts some upgraded heating and mechanical elements, which let you simultaneous bake and roast the bread.
