The ec-O bench, self sustained and green

ecoswing.jpgA lot of us use street benches to rest our tired legs after a long day of work or shopping or simply to enjoy the ambience of our local parks. Well, here’s a bench with a difference. It somewhat resembles a gyroscope and a first time user will sure be left confused about its usability. But the circular design is indeed eye-catching and the bench does a lot more than resting our backsides. Designed by architect Steven Ma, the ec-O bench does its bit for the environment too. It works as a self-sustaining eco-system, collecting rainwater and harnessing energy from the sun using thin-film photovoltaics to light up and illuminate the seating by night. A system collects water and further filters it to feed the thirsty plants. Sitting on a street bench has never been such a green experience before. source

usb.jpgDesigner Kaan Kiriş has designed an innovative concept USB. So it is not clear if the linking of the two will lead to any transfer of data or any such function. In fact, we are left to decipher the features through the images as there is no information provided by the designer. What is more, the designer has intended this concept to be a limited edition series.

Pre-handshake_Handshake_Device_1.jpg Presidents to it, CEO’s do it, your parents do it, your pet dog does it, and so do you. Now don’t get any wild ideas. We’re talking about that friendly deal-signing peace-making handshake that’s become a major gesture that we as human beings use today. In the future, we can make our presence felt by a Telepresence Robot

Telepresence-Robot-1.jpg Circumstances like a busy schedule can hold a person from traveling to two places to attend a meeting or a hold a conference etc. We could always videochat, but up to some extent the vacuum of having a physical presence will remain. This can be filled now by a telepresence robot. Recently at an X Prize Fundraiser event, Google cofounder Sergey Brin made use of a Texai Skype-connected telepresence robot, moving around to talk to participants as if he was actually there. This robot used by Brin isn’t yet available for purchase, but other telepresence robots are coming down the pipeline- the Anybots QB robot for one. It is a 5-feet, 9-inch, 32 lb remote controlled robot unveiled this week and goes on sale this fall for $15000. It’s an unusual idea but one that could be useful in case of emergencies.
