Some people believe that post-release offenses are high and these need to be prevented. I agree but the Vertical Prison idea takes it so seriously that it doesn’t allow the criminal to even stay on the ground. This project will be vertical prison in the sky, above the crime-prone land where inmates will have to work and live in a community that will contribute to the host city below. They will give back their due to the city by working. This idea is really swell also the inmates will leave a free life up in the air till the completion of their sentence.

Often it happens that we go shopping on our bike and on return are in a dilemma as where to put all our bags, but not anymore. Red Dot Design Award winner for 2009, Biquattro is an electric bike that offers ease of mobility with convenience of storage space. It can be driven on two wheels and when the need arises the rear wheel can be split transforming the bike into a tricycle with a storage unit. The storage unit has a volume up to 150 litres. It has battery powered motor lasting thirty kilometers per charge with a charging time of only three hours. Alternatively it can be ridden like a bicycle using the pedals. Designed by Valentin Vodev, Biquattro is a versatile electric bike in the true sense.

This Table Will Self Destruct is a series of tables which will not go into second production. Designed by Donna Piacenza and Jody Work they are not just of limited edition but also exclusive. The table top is made of a grid of concrete pixels. With each new piece, one pixel is removed from the design, thus personalizing it and resulting in self destruction of the design. Production of the table will cease when the shape is no longer practical.

SURCO provides a new option to hold your CD’s/ DVD’s. It is a CD/ DVD Holder designed by Jorge Bovo. Primarily a foldable strip, it takes the shape of the CD/ DVD which are placed in it. It is colorful and occupies least space as it can be molded to the shape of the CD/ DVD. It has the capacity to hold up to ten CD’s. The only drawback though is that the CD’s remain exposed to the elements.

Designers Victor Massip and Laurent Lebot of Faltazi have designed a conceptual waste recycling unit called Ekokook. This project aims at processing kitchen and house wastes as close as possible to the place where they are produced that is the kitchen. Here solid waste is selected, processed and stored in containers. A reservoir and two pitchers under the sink are used for collecting water which is then recycled. A container unit in the form of a rotating drum is proposed to collect organic wastes such as fruit and vegetable peelings, leftovers etc. which are broken down by earthworms. The idea of storing garbage so long in the kitchen and keeping live earthworms there seems repelling. Source

"Yona” the lounge chair from Kieser Spath is a multi functional chair. It can be used as a lounge chair or dismantle it and lo and presto it falls flat to become a carpet. Covered in upholstery, it has several thin foam layers and fabric and a bearing structure made in polypropene sheet. An industrial Velcro is used to steady the chair on the floor. Having soft edges, it allows multiple sitting and lying postures to the users. When used as a chair, it offers extra upholstery at the base to place the feet on. Gregory deGouveia has designed “The Kitten”, a bicycle that moves on two car wheels. It has two solar powered headlights and can move in seven speeds. Brake has to be applied by foot. It weighs 205lb and was built because the car wheels were procured free. Though it seems to be rigid but it takes a backseat when we consider the weight factor. Source

It has got a shelf too for keeping newspapers, magazines etc. Whether we have small children at home or even otherwise this table can occupy centre space in our room without any worry of sharp edges.

In a rare case of a three dimensional object following art, designer Vladimir Ambroz has transformed static canvas of neoplasticism founder P.Mondrian into moving furniture. Named The Moving Mondrian, it can be used as a library to store books etc. It houses shelves, drawers and colorful doors in various formats and sizes. The Moving Mondrian is a classic example of a designer converting a painting on canvas into furniture.

Here we have an alarm clock designed by Corey Harris that literally coaxes us to leave the bed. Its snooze function is a ball which it hurls across the room at the set time and the alarm continues till the user gets up, retrieves the ball and places it back in the clock. If the user chooses not to get up and retrieve the ball, the alarm will be repeated every 10 minutes. Finally we have an alarm clock that we can’t take lying down.
