Washit, an innovative shower unit is a combination of a shower and a washing machine. It collects and filters used water for washing clothes or showering. It is a closed plumbing system with two water pumps, three filters, a UV cleaning phase, a heater and a water storage unit. When the person is in the shower, Washit gathers grey
water from the bottom of the shower, passes it through the filters and UV unit, and sends the water to the storage unit. This stored water can then be used for further showering or washing clothes.
Ahmet Burak Aktas, Adem Onalan, Salih Berk Ilhan and Burak Soylemez, turkish students started Washit as a university assignment, but landed up winning iF Concept Design Award 2012: Hansgrohe Special Award for
their water-saving design. The team was looking for a solution to save excessive water use in the bathroom specially while taking a shower, which is a relaxing activity and they came up with the idea of joining a shower and a washing machine.
