The usual chrome orb belies the fact that is a camera and not some showpiece; The Smart Camera is an intelligent piece of equipment that has the capability to shoot previously chosen targets. Fitted with sound and motion detectors, the camera finds and then shoots still or videos of the target. To brief the camera about the target, one has to hook it up to a comp (via USB) and import a picture from it to the camera. The camera then triggers off whenever the chosen picture (or sound) comes within perspective. In the “free roam” mode, the camera scans the environment and reacts on any movement or noise. The motion and audio sensors can be modified so that the camera captures every bit of sound.
The pictures and videos are recorded to an external hard disc or the brain. The silvery orb is just the camera part and the external HD has the storage capacity of 80GB. Interestingly, you can retrieve the data from the HD without disturbing the orb.
