Has bicycling always been on your mind? Do you treat the Tour de France as an annual pilgrimage? Did your world come crashing down when Lance Amstrong finally admitted his mistakes? Well then, this table’s crafted just for you! Designed by Gae Aulenti, one of Europe’s most profound designers in the 50s and 60s, the Tour Table is a perfect tribute to the world of bicycling and kicks away the conventional table legs, using bicycle wheels instead!
The four wheels rotate and work as casters. For a table-top, Aulenti made use of a half-inch glass slab that gives users a view of this table’s unconventional supports. The table was designed in 1993 and continues to fascinate the world of design even today. To keep the table from rolling around, the tires must be placed facing different directions. The Tour Table is currently housed at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
