• Illum Chair by Damaris & Marc inspired by a female pelvis bone

Damaris&Marc Design Studio from Barcelona have put forth a new concept design called the Illum Chair. It’s inspired by a female human pelvis bone and I’m not sure that’s a good thing. A combination of wood and plastic is used to make this strange design. On one side, you will come across a single moulded plastic including the main seat and the two front legs, while the other side features two wooden legs attached to the back of the seat as well as a backrest of the same material joining the two sides of the plastic ilium of the pelvis together. You will also find a cushion here for comfort.

The designers made this to re-experience the fact of being supported by the pelvis bone as it is where the magic process of creating life takes place. Also, the backrest is a lot like the ribcage which shows space for the heart that is a symbol of love. Quite a soppy and corny chair, I must say.
