I have never seen a fireplace in modern homes. With the centralized heating systems being so popular, I think the culture of lighting fire and sitting around the fireplace in the evening and listening to old stories or basically bonding with the family has now long gone. One of the main reasons for this may be the modern minimalistic furniture trend in the houses, today. But still, in an effort to get back to the roots and stay grounded apart from staying warm in the room, this concept of having a fireplace enclosed in glass in the centre of the room, will definitely look amazing during the chilly evenings. With the chimney and everything in place, this is what a modern fireplace should like. The only thing I find missing is some sort of a Recamier, or a lounge or warm couches around the fire where the bonding and cozying can happen.
