A lot of us use street benches to rest our tired legs after a long day of work or shopping or simply to enjoy the ambience of our local parks. Well, here’s a bench with a difference. It somewhat resembles a gyroscope and a first time user will sure be left confused about its usability. But the circular design is indeed eye-catching and the bench does a lot more than resting our backsides. Designed by architect Steven Ma, the ec-O bench does its bit for the environment too. It works as a self-sustaining eco-system, collecting rainwater and harnessing energy from the sun using thin-film photovoltaics to light up and illuminate the seating by night. A system collects water and further filters it to feed the thirsty plants. Sitting on a street bench has never been such a green experience before.
