Rubik's Lamp diffuses a puzzling light

Rubik_lamp_1.jpg It's the world's best selling toy and was invented in 1974 by Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture, Ernő Rubik. Often dubbed as the Magic Cube, we have seen plenty of inspirations that take on the majestic beauty of the Rubik's Cube. Here we have a special iteration that glows with the very spirit of the puzzle. The Rubik's Lamp has been designed by Eric Pautz' and he gives to us two versions of the lamp. The simple white form sports different textures on each face, giving it an enigmatic appeal. The colored version is closer home to the original and reflects the colors that make the puzzle so popular.

Gluttony, a sin that deserves some light

Source
light2.jpg
In spite of repeated requests, most of the Food Court staff is quite stingy when asked for extra spoons or forks. The other day, when my son split a fork, and the chow lady refused to replace it! I wonder what they do with all those disposed plastic cutlery, and the extra ones lying their pantry. However this I don know, that when they find their way to , they turn in to an artistic expression. Gluttony is a suspension lamp that was designed by Luna and it even found its way as a finalist in the "house party" competition by Designboom. Made from disposable cutlery it really tests the flexibility of the spoons, knives and forks.

Un-zip the lights

ziplight.jpg I don’t know how many of you support my theory that there are two elements that bring out the best in your house: one is the flooring and two- is the lighting. You may own the most exquisite antique furniture and dot the house with bizarre memorabilia, but the effect is lost if you don’t showcase the package well. Lights and floors are like the gift-wraps of a present. The perfect ribbon bow makes the gift more ornamental and so does the flooring and fittings make the house perfect. Sometimes you need more modest designs like the Rat Tail and at other times you need something quirky like this Un-zip light. Designed by Selcuk Saraloglu, the simple idea of unzipping takes on a purpose with this fixture.

Riflessi light concept mirrors light via fabric

riflessi_light_1.jpg Using mirrors and LED fabric, designer Yana Klimava has created the Riflessi light concept. The LED fabric glows while the differently sized mirrors reflect the light, saving on energy and creating alluring light pattern. Mirrors reflect light during daytime, while light emitting fabric glows at night. One can even place the mirror "droplets" wherever they please and the LED fabric (or any other light source) will be able to create magical light patterns to spruce up the room. A very nice concept that can help you jazz up your pad, considering Christmas is fast approaching; we hope to find this or something similar to shimmy up the rooms.

Give a rat's tail about this light

rat_lamp.jpg The Rattus Norvegicus Rex has to be the quirkiest design for a chandelier that I have seen in a long time. Fondly called The Brown Rat King, it features porcelain rats hung upside down with red glass berries in their mouth. The ring of acorns, leaves, and glass complete the look. I don't know what inspired the creators, but maybe Alice in Wonderland or the three blind mice played a vital role in their lives!

Cassius lamp is up for a bout of boxing

cassius_lamp.jpg Imagine punching the daylights of a boxing-bag and it see it transcend into a beautiful design for a lamp. Sound to weird and complicated but your heavy arm upper cut could just as well fashion a cool lap that you can show off at home. Austrian company Fluid Forms has this amazing concept for the Cassius lamp; they encourage you to aim punches at a virtual boxing-bag and the resultant dents provide a platform for your individualistic Cassius lamp. By clicking and punching you can shape a unique form and by dragging the virtual design you can turn your creation around and observe it from all sides.

Vitalia blooms with concentration, wilts with deviation

Vitalia_blooms.jpg To sum it all up Vitalia is a friendly machine that "feels" like you, arouses emotions, helps you learn and has many facets. Essentially I have just strung together German designer Ellen Herzog's description for this wonderful light concept, that blooms like a flower when the optimum conditions are available for a child to do concentrated work like studies. A conducive environment is always beneficial for learning, and no one knows it better that a mother like me, who has to struggle with the kids to sit down for a session of serious studies. Even in classrooms, teachers are always at on their toes, coping with the lack of efforts by indifferent children. The Vitalia shows the pupils whether air and light quality surrounding them are conducive enough for work.

The Magnetic Lamp is a source of U-light

magnetic_lamp_1.jpg The bend in lamp makes you think you are holding a jug-handle without the jug, but in reality it's a lamp that sticks onto most metallic surfaces. Like magic-tricks that enthralled as kids, the Magnetic Lamp takes inspiration from the Attraction-properties of a magnet. Designed on the lines of a horseshoe magnet, the lamp is fashioned U, with rubber tips at both the ends. Composed of two sections, the rubber tips and the lamp, designer Seokmoon Woo conceals the magnets in the rubber end. When you place the tips onto a metallic surface, the magnets latch-on to the surface plus trigger off the internal switch, which turns on the lamp.
