Twin self-supporting glass staircase from Faraone

Glass-Staircase-1.jpg I hate stepping on those glass staircases. Although they are strong and built to sustain heavy weights, I just don’t feel safe climbing on them. So imagine my fright when I came across the Twin self-supporting glass staircase from Italian furniture house Faraone. Designed by designer Roberto Volpe, this staircase is sure to make you feel as if you were in mid air. The minimal staircase, boasts of lightweight transparent treads made of safe and durable tempered glass, which mount directly to your wall with contemporary steel supports. The banister which is also made of tempered, laminated glass, offers additional support to this unique staircase. This aesthetically appealing staircase will definitely add a unique touch to your living space.

Corner Candles by Justin Johnson fit into your room’s nooks and edges

Corner-Candles-2.jpg Dark corners will be a thing of the past now. You certainly don’t need to fear what’s lurking in the shadows spread across the corner of your room, where the light never usually reaches. And that’s if you’re using Justin Johnson’s Corner Candles. A candle stand has never looked so beautiful before, and has certainly never found its place in a corner. The Corner Candles concept though is a bit different, saves space, and lights up the corners of your room. Candles, unlike those boring old LED lamps, bring a sort of elegance to a room, and work best in a romantic atmosphere. And when it comes to lighting up a room with candles, the corners usually remain submerged in darkness. Laser cut powder-coated steel candelabras for your walls, the Corner Candles will make sure the nooks and edges of your room remain well lit up and illuminated.

The illusionist, Mirror Wall

480x400_mirror-wall.jpgBeen walking into walls recently? Well, here’s yet another one you can one right up to and crash into. More like a trick Roadrunner would play on Wile E Coyote in the Looney Tunes Show. The Mirror Wall is basically an illusion. The open-door isn’t really one. It’s just a mirror on a concrete wall that gives the illusion of an open door through which you can walk. So if you do try walking through this one, you’ll probably just end up flat faced on a concrete wall.

“Bucky” pendant light, table lamp and floor lamp

Bucky.jpg These day’s you are spoilt for choice when it comes to buying a lighting fixture for your home. But if you like contemporary designs, I recommend you opt for the unique Bucky lamp designed by Studio Lagranja for Pallucco. Unveiled at the Salone del Mobile 2010 in Milan, this lighting fixture wins your heart with its design and functionality. The shape of this lamp is inspired by a kite and pays tribute to Richard Buckminster ‘Bucky’ Fuller, the visionary American architect and designer who was the first to experiment with tensile structures. The lamp has been made using the very same tensile structures. One can expect the lamp to bathe you in a colorful glow if the three rods, realized in 700-mm milk-white blown glass, are equipped with orange or purple glass filters. But the best part is that this lamp is available as a pendant light, a table lamp and a floor lamp.

‘Six-Forty by Four-Eighty’ light installation wins accolades at Design Miami Basel

Six-Forty-by-Four-Eighty-1.jpg There is something about a display of lights that makes you stop and notice. Counting on this moth-like tendency of humans to be attracted to a display of lights, MIT Media Lab research students Jamie Zigelbaum and Marcelo Coehlo have presented an interesting light installation dubbed, ‘Six-Forty by Four-Eighty’ at this year’s Design Miami Basel. The modular, interactive lighting system encourages the user to touch, move, compose and recompose its constituent parts to create a rich visual drama. Based on the idea of the pixel, the installation features 220 magnetic tiles. When moved, the lights change color. What is more, light patterns across multiple pixels can be produced by simply pointing at them. Creating a breakthrough of sorts, when you touch two tiles at the same time, a current passes through the person’s skin, which has a synchronizing effect. Truly breathtaking, this interactive light installation is just awesome.

Lightleafs: Concept illuminated OLED bookmark

OLED-bookmark-1.jpg Being a book worm, I know how hard it is to put down a book. You just don’t feel like putting the book down till you devour the last few pages. But many factors can play a spoil sport and prohibit your from finishing that book. Mainly electricity or even rules in your dorms or hostels that make sure the lights are turned off at a particular time, heck even a strict mom can make sure you stop reading and get to bed on time. Such folks had better pray that designer Valentina Trimani’s concept bookmark or page marker better materialize soon. Dubbed the Lightleafs, this concept bookmark is not your ordinary bookmark but an illuminated OLED page marker! As thin as a page in a book, this bookmark runs wirelessly, has a rechargeable battery and you can even control the brightness!

Carnovsky Design Studio creates wallpaper that changes in different colored lights

Spooky-wallpaper.jpg I don’t know about you guys, but I definitely don’t think its fun or cool to sleep in a room with spooky skeleton images. For all those who think otherwise, Italian design studio Carnovsky latest creation is definitely for you. The design studio has developed a unique wallpaper. Under normal conditions the pattern on the wallpaper looks insane as you're looking at all of the different iterations at once (so it looks like a 3D image when you're not wearing 3D glasses). But the fun begins when you add light effects. With red, green or blue light only certain designs on the wall would be visible, giving you the feel of continuously changing wallpaper. But here is the best part; you can opt for images other than the spooky skeleton that Carnovsky has used. A great concept, however, I’d rather not install this poky wallpaper in my home.

On the one hand we have a regular bathtub and on the other hand we have a design which is delicate and subtle like a woman’s body in motion. Designed by Gustaw Lange, the inspiration of the design was the desire to seize a fleeting movement. When we have more time at our disposal, we can indulge in a long and relaxed bath in the bathtub. After moving its arm, we can change the bathtub into an open shower cabin ensuring a relaxed feeling during an otherwise fast and routine activity. Its arm is flexible and can be adjusted to the chosen height. Its integrated showerhead functions as a bath faucet and a shower disc with hot and cold water options. The tub, black outside and white inside, is made of nylon and silicon. It is a harmonious synthesis of creativity and functionality.
