If you have been amused and awed by the dew-drop homes that we see in animated movies depicting the future, then this idea will appeal to you. This is a design by Architecture and Vision – a pod-like mobile living room with a Carrara marble shell called MercuryHouseOne. It is defined as a habitable unit designed as a mobile lounge, integrating functional and aesthetical considerations, designed to fit both in a natural or urban environment. The exterior Carrara marble is backlit at night, enhancing the form and creating special attention for evening events. The interior can be set up in a variety of configurations to accommodate different uses. The inspiration of this design is from the ‘beauty and perfection of a water drop’.
The design team includes Arturo Vittori and Andreas Vogler from Architecture and Vision, project manager Nicola Minardi, engineer Orlando Pandolfi and the advanced cabin by Italian company GVM of Gualtiero Vanelli in Carrara. The project will be presented in Venice in September during the 53rd Art Exhibition, Biennale of Venice, on San Servolo island.
