Global design company Populous has been chosen to design the main stadium for the 2014 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games to be held in Sochi, Russia. Besides the main stadium, the company will also design the master plan and overlay plan for competition and non-competition venues and facilities. The stadium is expected to boast of eco-friendly features and seat a crowd of 40,000 people. The exterior of the stadium will be sheathed in a crystalline skin which will be translucent during the day and come alive at night with the color and light effects. Eco friendly features include natural lighting and ventilation. As the work progresses, more and more details of this new stadium will surface.

Let’s hope Populous can match up to the grand standards set by the Beijing Olympics.
