Polish architects at mode:lina are probably too weary of windmills and linear-efficient modes of energy, to have come up with the concept of energy-producing skyscraper. The pasta-like structure mixes wind, kinetic and water production for maximum efficiency. Besides that, it manages to look organic and functionally efficient as well. Eco-building concepts are on a steady rise owing to the need of the hour and a necessity to capture renewable sources of energy. The Strata Tower in London’s Elephant and Castle Area is one such building concept that incorporates wind turbines in its original design. The building is said to be completed in July, and developers hope that the 42-floor, 408 unit apartment building will generate 8% of its electricity from the turbines. “The Razor” with construction cost of $19.7 million will feature 29.5 foot blades in its 19 kilowatt turbines on the roof. The turbines employ Venturi Effect to produce 50 megawatt hours of power each year. However, skeptics have their own doubts about this novel concept.]]>
Either which ways, “The Razor” will not qualify to be the only building incorporated with turbines as there are already many ventures that are zeroing in on similar concept. One of them is Paris’s Phare Tower that will incorporate solar skin as well as rooftop turbines in its design when it will be completed in 2015.

The latest concept wristwatch to draw my attention is the concept 3D Unlimited timepiece. The unique timepiece uses OEL panel to display the time. The 3D effect is created by a lenticular lens above the interface that creates the illusion of depth. Time is displayed by simple digits on the 3D cube below the lens. But the best part is that the wearer is not required to wear 3D glasses to view the time from this unique watch!]]>

The adventures of the virtual world are set to get even more amazing with the Virtusphere, a new concept virtual reality system. The unique system makes use of a plastic wheel that is mounted on a wheeled platform that allows users to walk around in virtual environments. The sphere can move in all directions based on the user’s actions on the inside. Users are expected to wear a wireless head mounted display that syncs with a computer and allows them to play video games or experience virtual environments. What is more, multiple spheres can be connected together to enjoy multi-user games. Besides gaming, the concept of the Virtusphere can also be used as a tool for doing a virtual walkthrough of a building or visualizing any 3D object.]]>

Rossi Navi Shipyard has recently released a 42.8 m concept called Ketos, an elegant and streamlined design with a marine grade aluminum structure. The yacht aggressive shape and gill-like vertical lines give the idea of ‘big fish’ which is the Greek translation for Ketos. Ketos is a pure planing yacht available in two versions, the trideck and Fly, which features an open main saloon and dining room. The yacht has a projected range of around 2,000 nautical miles and a max speed of 25 knots. Ketos can comfortably accommodate 10 guests in the owners’ cabin and four double guest cabins and seven crew members onboard. The yacht is designed to integrate high comfort levels and wide spaces, with harmonious views. ]]>

One of the most commonly faced problems by this generation is Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), also known as winter depression or winter blues. A mood disorder, people suffering from it usually tend to experience or show symptoms of depression in the winter or in the summer, spring or autumn, repeatedly, every year. Out of the many remedies for this disorder, is Liquid Sunshine, a unique therapeutic showerhead by Seattle based designer Joseph Henney. The unique showerhead aims to reduce, or even cure, its user’s depression after each morning or evening shower. The therapeutic showerhead makes use of an internal turbine that is driven by household water pressure to power blue wavelength LEDs. The blue LED’s along with the flow of water help to relieve stress (both mental and physical), allowing users to relax. A unique remedy, it will surely benefit many.

Vitalic is a unique multipurpose furniture piece designed by Juan David Vargas Ramírez. Although a concept, this design with its many features has appealed to me a great deal. An outdoor furniture piece, it is a three-seater bench with a unique removable centerpiece that looks like a bucket. Since no information is available we can only guess the many uses of this unique furniture design concept. The bucket in the center can be used to plant a small tree around which you can sit or you can even fix an umbrella. What is more, little children can even fill the bucket with their toys and other belongings as they sit on the bench. ]]>
The unique design even won the designer the second prize in the Design for Spin & Design International contest. A great concept, this multipurpose outdoor furniture piece promises to be a great asset in modern homes.

When a drained pool is not in use for a long time, I often feel that the pool area should be used for something more useful than naughty boys jumping off the fence and practicing skateboarding. Finally, my woes are settled with the introduction of the Hydrofloors vertically movable floors that enable the client to exploit the surface area of a swimming pool room for other uses like recreation, social events, dining or dancing. The sophisticated system is almost invisible, flexible and rapidly adaptable. It’s interesting to watch the floor of the pool floor lowered to let the water gracefully flow into it in the video.]]>
This is a wonderful concept as it allows the floor height to be adjusted to a pre-selected water depth like that for kids or a depth suited to those with special needs. This diverse and multifunctional pool is a suave alternative to save on space.

When I first set eyes on the GMC dust buster, I thought it was a new design of some model spaceship. (at least it looked so in the pictures) It has a horizontally elliptical shape, which is quite an interesting look for a domestic dust buster really! Its handle is positioned directly over the vacuum cleaner’s weight, so it’s easy to maneuver. It is also equipped with a fold-away nozzle that makes the product safer and more appropriate to the kitchen environment.

These days, the image of a wristwatch has taken many forms and notions; wherein some are futuristic and others are flashy. None that attempt to keep the basic function of the watch intact. Designer Sabastian Krabbe, who is utterly touched by the natural and cultural treasures of the Alps, has designed a minimalistic watch that is a just combination of earthy as well as urban. The watch’s dial is composed of stainless steel and is polygonal-shaped to remind of a naturally grown crystal. Its stainless steel face is etched with marks that signify twelve, three, six and nine. ]]>
The most attractive feature of the watch is its wristband, which is composed of a type of rusty wood which is mainly found in alpine regions of Central Europe. The watch parts like the adjustment/wind up wheel, its pin and the joint to the hands are deliberately visible, to underline the honest and original look of the wristwatch.
