Volkswagen’s XL1 concept car to soon be a reality

Volkswagen-XL1-concept.jpg Well what do you know! A once-in-a-blue-moon phenomenon is yet to happen again, and this time we’re sure excited. Now concept cars are meant to be just what the name suggests, concepts. They very rarely hit the assembly line and are produced, and even if they are, in limited editions. Volkswagen’s concept, the XL1 however will soon be more of a reality than just a bunch of sketches and renderings and will also be one of the most efficient cars to drive around. The XL1 is a plug-in hybrid car and packs a two cylinder diesel engine that can extend its range when the batteries run out of juice. The car will give a good 260 miles per gallon, enough to make users travel far on a bit of fuel.

Fully functional home covering 33 square meters, the SustenHOME

SustenHOME.jpg As time flies by, the homes we live in are getting smaller. Talking about small homes, we came across a neatly packed living space that doesn’t take up too much of space, and makes sure you don’t lose out on any creature comforts either. Known as the SustenHOME, this one was designed by Héctor Alcalá and has a floor plan of just 33 square meters. Well, the little space it takes up doesn’t stop it from boasting out loud a living room type area, a kitchen, a bathroom, a closet and a bedroom too. And the best part, it’s foldable. Just like those tents we learned to assemble at Boy Scouts, the SustenHOME folds up from flat surface. Now it does have a pretty confusing shape, and we found it difficult figuring out which was the front end.

Office space divider, the Giraffe by Kawamura-Ganjavian

Giraffe.jpg If you work in an office with a mighty long work table shared by a few others and prefer to work in a bit of privacy, here’s the perfect contraption to take along and fix up! By design studio Kawamura-Ganjavian, the Giraffe Divider is a portable spatial divider for office use. Now we’re guessing this one gets its name from its four long legs. It helps divide an open plan office space well, allowing for privacy at work. Also, it does not affect the openness of a room’s layout and fits in minimally. Dividing your work space isn’t all the Giraffe does. It also works as a notice board and a hub for devices that need an electrical connection.

Rael-concept-bike-1.jpg We’ve seen concept bicycles before. A few really compare to this one though. By Evan Solida, the Rael looks great and functions fantastically too. The bike is designed in a way making a regular carbon-fiber road-bike safer to ride. Now this one needs no mirrors and you don’t need to crane your neck to look who’s honking behind. It sports a Cervellum Hindsight digital rearview camera hidden in the seat-stays that continuously records a loop of video and if it detects a crash with its accelerometer, it keeps recording for ten seconds and then stops, keeping the footage as evidence! Turnstyle by R.D. Silva, rejuvenating vinyl

Turnstyle.jpg We’ve seen those old gramophones before, in museums or probably resting in grandpa’s attic, collecting dust in the days of the mp3 and digital audio players. We’ll we’ve forgotten the fact that old records and record players are a lot more than just show pieces we’d come across in fancy restaurants. Giving the record player a new life is the Turnstyle designed by designer R.D. Silva. Now Silva decided to do away with that large cone shape that old record players sported, instead hooking up this contraption to a speaker. Also, the designer has kept it as simple as it could be, without too much of skin, with the entire structures bones exposed.
