Nendo loudspeaker with a traditional Japanese touch

Ceramix.jpgNow all we’ve known loud speakers to do is play our music aloud, real loud. No one gave a damn of giving them any sort of design before. Tokyo based studio, Nendo however thought otherwise. The guys there collaborated with a traditional Japanese potter and came up with this, a ceramic speaker. This square 1mm thick loudspeaker is decorated with some pretty eye-catching and fascinating intricate patterns. Complete with high-tech industrial ceramics and beautiful traditional craftsmanship, the speaker by Nendo had its beautification done by Kanazawa based potter Mitsuke Masagasu.

Nissan Torii car of the future with spheres instead of wheels

Nissan.jpgA decade ago, people dreamed of cars of the future flying across the skies, probably taking the whole concept from The Jetsons. Well, cars aren’t taking to the skies, at least for now. We came across something a lot cooler than a flying car, a design for a future Nissan, christened the Torii. Designed by Jorge Andres Pinilla Fonseca, the Nissan Torii has now wheels. What it does use instead are spheres, equipped with lithium-ion batteries and GPS. A great family vehicle that would suit the roads by the year 2030, the Torii looks futuristic and could be the ideal mode for future transportation.

Lighting up the staircase, the Spiers + Major way

speirs+major-1.jpg Here’s what you get when Spiers + Major set out to light up a staircase. Invited to light up the Usher Hall, Edinburgh, Scotland’s top historic art venue, Spiers + Major were faced with the challenge of lighting up the spiral staircase as well. And they did it well! By concealing all the wiring and electrical equipment for the lighting, the architectural integrity of the building has been kept intact. Taken that the spiral staircase has cylindrical, concrete walls, concealing all the lighting was somewhat of a task. Also, a 13.8m chandelier was used using lengths of fluorescent tubes encased within double acrylic cylinders.

98% recyclable metro cars for Warsaw designed by Siemens and BMW

The sparking and shiny new metro cars to be introduced in the Polish capital city, Warsaw are designed to be 98% recyclable. By BMW Group and Siemens, the Inspiro subway cars boast extra-wide entrances, large electronic displays for system maps, better lighting, and spacious interiors. The subway cars also show of their green characteristics with the handlebars, shaped like tree branches. Using aluminum weight-optimized chassis with significantly lesser energy consumption, the Inspiro metro cars will make traveling across the city of Warsaw a lot more comfortable.

Two-wheel vehicle designed for Peugeot spins around with asymmetrical axle

Presented at the Peugeot Concours Design” in 2006, this one’s based on the gyroscope technology and runs on two wheels. The wheels are attached to an asymmetrical axle permits them to change their relative centers with the cabin for greater maneuverability. With a front entrance that allows users to get and out easily and individually motorized wheels, this one could be the ideal means of transportation for urban areas in the future, taken that it can rotate around on the spot, making parking easier.
