‘Forget-Me-not’ convenient umbrella
Imagine a rainy afternoon when you’re rushing past to reach the coffee shop to catch up with your friends, and you’ll chat and chat and then get up and leave when it’s evening. Everything goes well, except for the fact that you left your wet umbrella in the coffee shop itself. Now take a flashback into your life and think about all the pretty umbrellas you have ever left back at such common places. Now, this will not be a problem anymore, because with the ‘dangling umbrella’, you can conveniently dangle the umbrella to the edge of the table or a bar. The handle slides apart so that the cap can be slipped over the edge of a table or bar. When the cap is opened, it lights up with the words “Don’t forget.” Silicon on the underside of the cap helps it grip the surface. I think this is a very handy and useful thing, and I guess all umbrellas should have this mechanism too!

Easy ‘Go Dutch’ with Piece of Cake payment system
Paying for a friend’s meal could mean pinching the pockets for those who make sufficient money to fund only their own expenses. But it could get really uncomfortable to go out in the open and declare that you’re going Dutch. Even if it were a pre-decided deal between friends, splitting the bill under the public gaze could be a bit embarrassing. Here’s a restaurant payment system that could relieve you of the embarrassment and the calculations. It is called ‘Piece of Cake’ and it is a calculator that assists groups who wish to pay for a meal by going Dutch. “Digital Baroque” Soumaya Museum is an architectural wonder
Telecom magnate Carlos Slim’s son-in-law, Fernando Romero is quite an architect we hear. He is a star in the Mexico’s architectural community and has won several praises in international design competitions. He is currently working on Mexico City’s Soumaya Museum which is funded by his father-in-law. The curvaceous edifice features very complex, undulating geometries which is made possible by CAD. Romero is working with engineering firm Ove Arup, who helped erect the Sydney Opera House as well as the Beijing Olympics’ Bird Nest and Water Cube Structures.
Check out his other enterprises after the jump.

Your Mobile Expectations by Olafur Eliasson: A unique BMW vehicle
Believe it or not this bizarre shaped structure is actually a car! And not just any car, it is actually BMW’s hydrogen-powered race cars under a sheath of steel mesh, stainless steel mirrors, and many layers of ice. Created by Danish artist Olafur Eliasson and sponsored by BMW this car highlights the connection between cars and global climate change. Christened the Your Mobile Expectations, this car was part of BMW’s Art Car Series that invites artists to modify the luxury cars. The artist took three years to develop the Your Mobile Expectations project. It required immense hard work including removing the body of a BMW H2 and replacing it with a skin of steel mesh and reflective metal. After that, around 2000 liters of water was sprayed over the new skin, forming a delicate layer of ice atop the reflective material. “Paddling Home”- A tiny floating house
Kacey Wong from Hong Kong has created a tiny floating house called “Paddling Home” as part of the 2009 Hong Kong & Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism/ Architecture showing till 2/27/2010. It is a 4’x 4’x 4’ small house covered with pink tiling on the outside, protruded bay window and amenities such as such as air conditioning, stainless steel gate etc. It is fixed atop four barrels which float on water. Last week Wong launched the boat playing golf on the roof and also fishing on it. The boat house boasts of a 360 degree sea view. Though it is quite a small boat house but the ingenuity and enthusiasm portrayed by Wong is admirable.
