Classic bowl goes spherical

tureen1.jpg Traditionally soup was always served in a serving bowl called the ‘tureen’. But it’s the 21st century now and the usual round, deep, oval shaped tureen has undergone a makeover courtesy Apostol Tnokovski. This innovative designer has designed the new age sphere shaped tureen that has an integrated cap or a lid if I may call it that. That cap functions like a rail mechanism that has to be opened by sliding. This egg shaped white spherical has two cute little handles to hold from the sides. No matter how cute this looks, it somehow reminds me of a boy’s head. Nevertheless while the function and purpose remains the same, a slight change in the design looks refreshingly welcome.

mytray.jpg I have a friend who has just moved in an apartment given by his company. Being a bachelor, he didn’t really need a lot of furniture around the house. Featuring two parts, one sliding on top of the other, the multifunctional trey adjusts to the sofas of different type and dimension. You can use it while enjoying a cricket of soccer match for keeping for drinks and chips, or while working away on your laptop. Very compact and portable it sure is.

Ping Pong Ball Launcher by Louise Cochrane

Ping-Pong-Ball.jpg Louise Cochrane a product design engineering student has designed a ping pong ball launcher that fires 3 ping pong balls at a target 3- 4m away, with a maximum of 5 seconds between each firing. It consists of a rotating feeder which feeds a ball along the piping into position. Then powered by a motor, a metal ruler is cranked back and released to fire the ball. Husmus means the ‘house mouse’ and the name fits the design very aptly considering the abstract mouse face created by rivets and handles on the face of the container. The containers can fit in different types of standard modules, garbage throwing behavior, sizes of plastic and paper bags, and the weight of glass, metal and paper. Each bin can hold two or more bags, separating glass and plastic with just one container.

Weird Kitchen takes a 360 degree turn to depict an earthquake

Whether we admit or not, we are all drawn to destruction, violence even if not implied by us. Don’t we always stop at the highway to have a better look of the car wreck? Reflecting this tendency of ours, this strange kitchen has been made. The prototype has been made to satiate our curiosity of how our kitchen, for example, will look had there been an earthquake. This weird and strange kitchen works on an earthquake simulator that keeps rotating on an axis while all things from the kitchens cabinets keep falling on account of gravity. The modular kitchen takes a full 360o turn slowly and steadily giving a complete authentic feel of the natural calamity occurring right in front of our eyes. This is a video worth checking out!

Keep a check on your state of mind and heart with this Bio Circuit

vest.png Meditation and Yoga have been insanely popular in the last few years. People are doing a lot to remain fit, keep their heart rate, blood pressure in check and know their inner self, basically. Armed only with a a heart rate monitor and a music player and a Lilypad Arduino, two students Dana Ramler (Industrial Design) and Holly Schmidt (MAA) from Emily Carr University have design this very cool vest that monitors the wearers heart rate according to which it playes back a suitable sound track. For instance, if the wearer of the vest has a low heart rate, the vest plays back a track that reflects a quiet natural ares with soothing sounds of water and birds. Similarly, if the heart rate is high, he will hear a cacophony of people talking and traffic noise. They rightly call it the ‘Bio Circuit’ where the garment allows the wearer to be aware of his physiological state. [Fashioningtech ]

Edwin Conan designs the retro inspired Bugatti Type 57

bugatti-.jpg We have seen plenty of futuristic cars, but here is one car that goes back in to the past. The concept of Bugatti Type 57 Evoluzione created by Edwin Conan is far from being a sports car and is very close to being known as a luxurious, rich and exclusive vehicle that has a long stretched out bonnet just like in the 1930’s. The body looks extremely sexy and gives an illusion of fluidity and movement. Conan has also reintroduced the split line which bisects the car neatly down the middle. This design cue was one of the trademark styling elements of the Type 57 Atlantic. The engine in the car is front mid-mounted and is a W16 engine. The best part about this car is that its W 16 engine runs on hydrogen, which is a very ‘green’ option.
