Table of ‘Paradox’ which is actually a flower vase!

Paradox_Table.jpg Even if you don’t have a private terrace or a garden area in your home, with Sander Brouwers table, every morning can be garden fresh refreshing. Titled as ‘Paradox’ this unique design is actually a set of flower vases which can be doubled up as a table after putting a metal top to it. Shaped as a vase and made in ceramic, the body is in shape of vases which looks good but to me they only look like a set of bumps. Even after putting he table top to it, the flowers in the vases peek out of the already set holes in the table to give it a nice natural look and feel. Ideal for compact spaces, this multifunctional table sure will do a lot to uplift your senses first thing in the morning and add to the décor of the room.

Matus Prochaczka’s concept car has large hamster wheel tire

Towering-Tire-Cars.jpg The most amazing thing about concept cars is that designers sometimes go over the top with their designs. Many a times, these highly imaginative forms rarely make it to reality, but nevertheless, such cars sure stand out and command appreciation from several automobile aficionados. Keeping the cool imaginative quotient high Matus Prochaczka features a car which has a rear tire that seems way too big for the frame of the vehicle. Though the car otherwise look extremely sexy and stylish, but the rear wheel is what makes the car stand out really. Perhaps, showing his appreciation for old time bicycles, this design doesn’t seem practical enough to me, though design wise it is quite remarkable.

Miranda Watkins uses Cantilever’ concept for a flower vase

Cantilever_Vase.jpg Innovation in designs and structures consider only sky to be the limit. Miranda Watkins does just that and has come up with a cantilever vase made of stainless steel and glass which looks very classy. A cantilever is a beam supported on only one end. Using this concept, the beam arches downwards with the weight of the flowers and water that it holds. When the glass vase is empty, it springs back to its original position. The beam is made of high grade stainless steel while the glass is blown glass. I think it looks totally useable and practical and would love to have it if it’s ever made into a real product.

Joseph Campbell’s velomobile doesn’t seem promising

velomobile.jpg

Joseph Campbell designs a concept that looks amazing. It looks bulky as well as light-weighted to me, at the same time. The huge long and big golden body is attractive and resembles a single carrier aircraft, while the 3 wheels make it look delicate and light. I wonder how the 3 wheels carry the weight of the bulky body, but nevertheless it has quite a few features to boast about. The derailleur was moved to the pivot of the rear swing arm and is set up much like a bottom bracket w/ suspension on a mountain bike. Instead of having pedals and a crank the cassette and belt drive pulley are attached. I think this looks best as a concept, and am not too sure of its practical use.

‘RotariPhone’is much more than a phone!

phone1.jpg

Alan Bader makes a remarkable and an amazing modification to a normal and the conventional phone as was invented by Graham Bell himself. The phone, no more remains a phone and becomes the speakers and the base unit for you i-pod now. This normal looking phone has a stand for your i-pod which has to be connected to the base. The handset of the phone is actually speakers for the music from the i-pod and the dial panel is the volume control. A fun design I say, but too bulky. It can make a good collectable for artifact lovers.

‘Plug and Socket’ ring duo by Anna Yu

ring.gif

The all-time popular half-heart concept to signify the ‘made for each other’ metaphor has now become passé. Anna Yu, a designer from Shanghai, China takes the ‘half heart’ concept to a unique level with this ‘plug and socket’ ring duo made of sterling silver. The plug and the socket concept signify the idea that one cannot exist without the other and is a perfect idea for a ring for a couple, making them a perfect pair. The plug ring could be worn by one and the socket ring, by the significant other. Thought, personally I am not really enticed by the idea of having this as a ring; it looks rather mechanical rather than alluring.

Hoog en Droog: Unique attic to store your clutter

Hoog-en-Droog-1.jpg You can never have enough of storage space. Besides the unique storage container, here is another great solution to end your storage woes. Called Hoog en Droog (High and Dry), this is a unique project created by Design Academy Eindhoven graduate Jephte Francissen. The project consists of wooden storage crates (which the designer made from left over pieces of wood from a furniture maker) that can be hoisted up to the ceiling using a clock spring. When the crates are raised upwards, the spring unwinds and the rope rolls itself up, while when they are pulled down the spring is used under tension. When you release the crate, it stays hanging where it is on its own. If you are known to have a lot of clutter in your home, this unique system is definitely the right solution for you.

Nokia CORE phone doubles as a computer mouse

Nokia_core_phone_mouse.jpg The Nokia CORE concept phone’s design is based on the theme of Star Wars which is pretty interesting. The most importing aspect of CORE is its interface and that the handset is based on styling that resembles a solar system. This solar system can be found on the base of the phone which is extremely user-friendly. The handset looks like a spaceship and sports soft concavity on both sides for an easy and a good grip. The phone can transfer its interface and connect automatically to a computer through Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. After the transfer is done CORE turns into a mouse of the computer and that’s how it can control the device through it User Interface. This multi-functional concept phone also has a camera lens, mouse buttons, both of which are hidden pretty well. The display of the handset is made from OLED’s that are covered in anti-scratch polycarbonate. Too good to be true, I doubt it will ever become a real product.

Irnia Alexandru designs a closet as stylish as your clothes

dna-closet1.jpg The problem of space has long since been like a spoke in the wheel when it comes to accommodating all our clothes in the wardrobe. Not only are we hassled with the space crunch due to the apartment styled houses, but also the problem of clothes getting creased easily is a major hassle. Designer Irina Alexandru offers a solution of a lifetime with his extremely stylish idea for a closet. He has bent and twisted the usual closet rod into dual helixes that allows more than double number of clothes to be hung without occupying too much space and sans the timely creasing. This is the perfect choice for the student dormitories or those who want to save space. I also love the design and shape which gives the look of a branded showroom closet. I would love to go for this one as it looks totally usable and practical.

With eRinGo have a ride of your life everyday

eRinGo.jpg Futuristic automobiles have always been designed for quite some years now, but this particular concept car by an Iranian designer Mohammed Ghezel has surpassed all bounds of shapes and sizes. This circular wheel-like car is a two-seater with two steering wheels. When the driver on the right uses his steering, the steering on the left automatically gets locked. An electric motor drives three rings that constitute the vehicle, while a gyroscope and two side wheels keep it upright even on sharp corners. I, personally don’t think the outcome is every practical, though it looks fantastic and playful, yet the thought of driving in it every day is not very promising. He calls this piece of marvel –eRinGo that means ‘electric rings that make it go’, which is the perfect name for it!
