Designers these days are spoiling chess lovers with unique concept chess sets. Okai Plai is the latest concept chess set that is sure to woo chess lovers. The playful chess set by Thomas Larsen in collaboration with Maria Edvardsen and Armand Bentzen has been designed to get more people to play chess by lowering the factor of seriousness, and instead make them more attractive for the common folks. Each piece has been given a unique personality and the designers hope common folks will not just enjoy playing chess but also find a favorite amongst the different characters.

Nissan’s new concept car promises to give its customers the feeling of gliding through air. The new concept car which was unveiled on Thursday has been christened the Land Glider and tilts to the side when going around bends to make drivers feel like they are gliding through the air. The car is designed to seat two (one in the front and one in back). What is more, the small size of the car (1.1 meters i.e. 3.6 feet wide) ensures freedom from parking woes as it can squeeze into tight parking spaces. The car moves in a three dimensional way and gives passengers a feeling of flying through air. Inspired by motorbikes and glider aircraft, the four-wheel car has tilting wheels and moving fenders that enable it to lean by up to 17 degrees. The car is equipped with special sensors that calculate the best tilt for negotiating a corner.

The bookcase by French designer Aissa Logerot is an incredible piece of furniture that works not only as your bookshelf but also as your table or a bench. It has clean finish that will surely fit with any interior design of today’s modern houses.

At their booth at CEATEC Fujitsu has introduced many appealing designs for concept phone. As they are yet in the concept stage, cannot be sure which design will actually come true someday. However, some of the designs which really caught my attention are- the red cylindrical phone that displays both a virtual keyboard and screen, the transparent soaplike phone with green button, the watch like phone and crystal soapbox like phone.

BMW Motorrad has introduced its newest concept scooter known as the C1-E electric concept scooter. According to BMW Motorrad, this concept scooter is a safe, environment-friendly and highly practical single track vehicle for city traffic could look like in the future. You may remember the C1 scooter that was available in Europe between 2000 and 2003. Like its predecessor, the C1-E concept features a fully-enclosed cabin with built-in rollover protection, a front-end impact zone, a four-point safety belt and a low center of gravity. Besides this, the C1-E is equipped with electronic aids such as integrated ABS, Traction Control, Tire Pressure Control and Anti-Slip Control. There are even plans of equipping this bike with a "forward-looking rider assistance systems" that help with cross-traffic and traffic light guidance as well as warning alerts for road hazards, emergency vehicles, sudden braking or advancing bad weather.

Many people get into depression as they are lonely but in the future, thanks to German designer Stefan Ulrich you will be able to relieve your loneliness using artificial muscle technology. He has designed a conceptual shape-changing object called Funktionide. For his project, Ulrich conducted research on plastics that change shape when an electric current is applied, called electroactive polymers. He recommends that in the future these materials could allow objects to change shape and surface texture and people will look forward to robots for the illusion of a living presence to keep them emotional happy. dazeen
