Stylish Maglev Washing Machine by Jakub Lekes

Maglev-Washing-Machine-1.jpg I’d be lying if I said I care only about performance and not looks when it comes to household appliances. I mean, who wouldn’t want a stylish looking washing machine? The concept Maglev Washing Machine designed by Jakub Lekes is sure to bowl you over with its looks and features. The traditional spinning drum is replaced by a spherical drum held in place by a series of electromagnets in the Maglev. One set of electromagnets keeps the drum levitating within the body of the machine, while a second set induces movement, allowing the drum to spin in all directions. A lot of noise is reduced as the drum never actually contacts the body. The design also cuts water and detergent usage.

i-Scoob: Luxury snowmobile concept

i-Scoob_luxury_snowmobile_1.jpg If luxury is your top priority when it comes to a snowmobile, the concept i-Scoob (name is a play on the words-ice cube) snowmobile will definitely appeal to you. This snowmobile is a diseno-art.com design proposal for a luxury two-person. The luxury mobile can be used for a number of purposes including daily transportation in snow clad regions or as a way to quickly transport people and equipment over the arctic tundra during scientific exploration. The drivetrain of the i-Scoob consists of a hybrid internal combustion engine/electric motor setup that helps to drive the vehicle in a purely electric-mode over shorter distances reducing the impact on the arctic environment. The batteries can be charged in 3 diff ways- by the engine, by plugging into an electricity socket or by using the fold-out solar panels which are kept in storage boxes either side of the vehicle.

Crushed paper design for Bin Bin waste basket

Crushed_paper_bin.jpg This is a really nice concept. It is a waste basket called Bin Bin and looks like crushed paper. It looks exactly like the contents it is designed to contain – like crushed paper for a waste basket or a tissue holder and so on. The stuff is made of hard polyethylene. While making the design and to create this particular look, over 500 small models were created by crumpling paper then unfolding it, until its shape resembled the desire bin. So the products now have been evolved into Mini Bin Bin, Pen Pen (pencil holder) and Wipy (a tissue box).

A light and sturdy bed by Trellis

bed.jpg A dream bed! At last Trellis brings us a dream bed which is as light as a chair. Hard to believe, but true. As there are no tools on it, shear-minimizing lap joints and tension cables create a strong frame it is so light that it can be even lifted by a child. It can be assembled and disammembled without any hassle. The best part is that it provides a lot of storage, which is required, because of small apartments today. What more can the lady of the house ask for? She does not need anybody’s help to assemble or disassemble it. It is extremely portable. The frame comes in ash, maple or oak depending on your choice. All women would love to own it as it makes them less dependent on others.

Have fun trashing away your trash!

Trash_bins_balls.jpg Trash bins need not always look like trash. Today we have different designs, patterns and style that defy the conventional bin. The latest one is designed by Hwajin Jung, and it looks like a soccer ball. Who can guess what is in it. You can exercise your foot and play with it simultaneously. It is made of ABS leather and it is quite sturdy. I might use it as a punching ball to remove all frustration as well. Soccer enthusiasts may also practice with it when they are pressed for time. It indeed is quite an interesting innovation I’d say. Good for the environment and at the same time you have a game at hand.

Toaster design inspired by the word ‘exaggerated’

Toaster.jpg Designer Mika Bector got his inspiration from the word exaggerated to develop this toaster design. To me the design resembles a shell inverted on a stand. Bread can be loaded from the top and it slides down from the base. The toaster is very convenient to clean as it does not allow breadcrumbs to stick inside.

Strukt Design Studio creates unique digital wallpaper

Digital_Wallpaper.jpg Want your wallpaper to stand apart? Well, so did an office in Vienna. And stand apart their wallpaper did. Strukt Design Studio has created a unique digital wallpaper for the office space using only a wall and digital projectors. The studio had all creative freedom and came up with a system to project video and other content onto the walls completely undistorted. Scripting software and projectors were used to accomplish this task. The software allows scaling the imagery to any architectural surface, projecting on a flat wall or intricately detailed façade. This particular office space already had a black and white strip pattern, so the designs experimented with that. Besides the simple colored light bands, the designers also created a unique Pacman animation.

Mason Planter concept by Joel Alexrod

Mason_Planter.jpg The Mason Planter is a unique concept planter that is designed by Joel Alexrod. Still in the process of development, this concept planter is designed to re-purpose Mason canning jars. The Mason Planter is made from ordinary materials like plastic and rubber. The rubber connector attaches the planter securely to the jar, but allows it to be easily removed to add water. The Planter uses a capillary motion to draw water up through cotton wicks to the roots of the plants. A unique design, it brings to light the various uses of Mason canning jars.

ZWEISTIL’s interchangeable framed bike

ZWEISTIL_convertible-bike.jpg Math lovers can now rejoice as ZWEISTIL has designed a geometric bike. The best feature being that the frame of the bike is interchangeable. It is basically a bike perfect for the city roads, and may not be meant for the tough mountaineering or treks. You can change gears in an instant with its super fast maneuverability. Be it normal city riding, sightseeing, it is possible to switch to a reclining position without having to stop the bike. Though it doesn’t look too inviting to me, yet for engineers, architects or plain math loves this is the ideal souvenir.

Emil Jacob's innovative airplane Flex-Seat design

airplane_interior.jpg Emil Jacob while stuck on a cramped overnight flight where he eventually resorted to sleeping on the floor came up with this ingenious design of giving passengers more room through a simple vertical strategizing. All he did was elevated every other row and removed one seat from every row to accommodate stairs, thus providing lots more leg space, storage space and many more people on flight. The good part being that all the seats can now recline fully as all that is behind them is empty air space. With the storage being right in front of the seat, this design removes the need to block the aisle to access the overhead compartments. The only glitch according to me in the design is that while giving more leg space, storage space it makes it look more cramped. Nevertheless, it is a very intelligent concept and if applied in reality should lessen quite a few travelling woes.

Marcus Tremonto’s new collection makes magic with lights!

Pixel_Bulb.jpg Marcus Tremonto brings to us an almost surreal use of light as material and form as ‘Looplight’ at Fumi Gallery. Looplight integrates electroluminescent electronic paper as its light source, while still incorporating the simplicity of the material. It gives us an illusion of being a magical combination of the 2D and the actual volumetric form. Tremonto plays around intelligently with light and has as good as transformed the meaning of words like ‘pixel art’ and ‘black light’. The pixel bulb makes it look like a surreal dreamlike world being lighten up.
