Water off a 150-year old tree trunk

quercus_tree_trunk1.jpg If you have been reading my entries, you will know by know how much I enjoy seeing new furniture designs and accessories. The 'quercus' water barrel is an addition to my top favourites. It is adorable and gives the home, kitchen more precisely such a rustic feel, so earthy. It is a water barrel made of polyester and fiberglass cast of a 150 year-old oak tree and also acrylic paint. This weyers & borms project was on show recently in the 'je suis dada' show at the design flanders gallery in brussels. This tree was ready to be strewn away but the designers thought that it can be put into a different use and so used a silicone mold of the tree almost identical to the original.

New futuristic car by Bruno Delusso

stratos-futuristic-car.jpg This is a concept car by Bruno Delusso. It is called Stratos. It is designed in a very futuristic manner which is prevalent in most designs these days. It has a long and flat rear while featuring two wheel shaped spheres in the front. It looks like a Porche flattened and polished or even a Beetle stretched and smoothened. From one angle it looks like a shot gun too! Wonder what the purpose is. Maybe Batman is returning after his return. Or maybe this is Iron Man’s new wheels, or cat woman’s? Who knows.

Openaire – desk, chair and laptop bag all in one

Openaire.jpg This is brilliant! Imagine crunching your desk, chair and laptop bag all into one small thing. This is the Openaire. It is a hybrid of a laptop carrying case, work surface, and chair and consists of a semi-rigid protective sleeve designed as an ergonomic laptop work surface and a protective shell that also functions as a comfortable seat. In other words, it doesn’t matter if you don’t have a table to place your mouse, this one has. It doesn’t matter if you have no place to sit, just remove the laptop cover, extend it and sit! And ofcourse once you are done, just fold it up and slide in your laptop! How exciting! I want one.

Elevating wheel chair design helping to sit and stand

Elevating_wheel_chair_1.jpg One Melbourne based ID student Jake Eadie came up with a very sweet invention. It is an electric wheelchair meant to switch between two modes –either sitting or standing. It will do some sort of robotics and extend to allow you to stand and do stuff as well. Isn’t that wonderful! I think it is. Most people who are disabled only have been having the displeasure of being seated perpetually. With this design, if it allows them to stand up and stretch a bit and feel elated, it is so pleasing. I like Jake.

Self-Sustainable chair to make you sit while walking

Self-Sustainable_chair.jpg This is really funny. Imagining walking around with a loose bean bag tied on you? Ha! This is the Self-Sustainable Chair. It's a dress made out of polyethylene, connected to shoes that pump air into an inflatable bubble attached to its rear part on each step. It transforms into a chair with each step and holds the person to sit on it naturally. So it's like you walk five steps, you sit. Then once the air is out get up walk some more and sit. Hilarious. With his or her body weight the chair is slowly deflated and forms back to the original flat dress. This is supposed to be a concept that 'motivates users to consistently switch between walking and sitting as a loop behavior on the street'. Well whatever the purposes of this invention, it sure is fun to do it I bet!

Flying Apartment System concept that will fly between continents in minutes

flying-apartment-system-for-year-2060.jpg Concepts are always welcome but ones that are a little far fetched may seem slightly disappointing. Like this example for instance. It seems you can in many many years, fly to different continents within minutes straight from your apartment. No, really. It is through this design conceptualized by designer Dennis Ingemansson called “Flying Apartment System”. It seems you can fly to Shanghai from New York in like 20 minutes or from London to Dubai in 27 minutes. And you don’t even have to bother about getting stuck in traffic because you are taking your apartment with you!! Honestly, don’t you think this is a bit far fetched? I do. Not that it will never happen, anything can happen now but the point is that it is so sad!
