The global design practice, Populous, won the architecture design competition for the $400 million main stadium in Incheon, Korea, for the 2014 Asian games. The 70,000 seat multipurpose stadium will be designed to later be changed to a single sided grandstand of 30,000-seats, within a park, after the Asian games. It will be located between Incheon international airport and Seoul, and will be the first landmark building people see when travelling to Seoul from the airport. Populous will design the new stadium with the local firm Heerim Architects & Planners and will establish a team of at least 10 architects in Brisbane, the firm’s key Asian office, to work closely with Heerim in Incheon.

The recovery of CENTQUATRE size of the Villa Arpel is one of the best sites to choose for a reconstruction. The house and décor where 50 years design triumph home making arts and modern comfort of “Mon Oncle”, the cult film of Jacques Tati had been beautifully reconstructed. According to an article, the designers who recreated the house and furniture had to work by sight, as the original plan no longer existed.

The Dancing Line was one of the ten commissioned designs by ten international leaders in this field. This was a project commissioned by the Formica Corporation as part of a group exhibit at Contemporary Arts Centre in Cincinnati, Ohio. All the pieces were eventually auctioned for the benefit of education and exhibition programming at the CAC. The requirement for the seating element was that the piece had to be fabricated using a Formica product. The white plastic laminate was used by SOM as this was the most recognizable product. SOM wanted to show the true nature of the product and hence by cladding only the top and bottom surfaces of the lounger, it left the core substrate made out of plywood exposed. The result was that the Formica lounger design fully expressed the plastic capabilities of the Formica material. The Dancing Line Chaise won the Spark Awards 2008: Furniture & Outdoor, Residential Category, Silver Award and Design Excellence Award 2008 from American Society of Interior Designers.

For those who seek design in almost everything, the Tilt knife block by SIDD is a must for you. Adding the lines and angles to your kitchen, this tiny object is another design masterpiece. The minimalistic block designed by Chris Pritchard allows you to place your knives in a simple and organized way. The simple block is handmade from a single chunk of solid Walnut, with a Canadian Maple inlay. Natural beeswax and orange oil are used to add that finishing touches to bring out the natural colors and grain patterns in these beautiful solid hardwoods. Simply beautiful, the Tilt knife block is a class apart.

The Cafe America chair by Grain Design literally incorporates the phrase – Sitting on the fence. A unique design idea, this chair will be on display at Design Within Reach's Seattle M+D+F exhibition on 7th May. The creation will definitely get a lot of attention and is sure to become the show stopper at this exhibit. I can’t help but appreciate the unique idea. A great chair, hopefully it isn’t as uncomfortable as it looks. Wonder if the designers took inspiration from Karim Rashid’s Swell Collection.

If you are a vegetarian, then this might only appeal you for the design and thought and the love for the sea kingdom. It isn’t an exceptionally admirable chair but the thought was there so its cool.

The iLamp by Systemdesignstudio is a flexible reading lamp and by that it literally means it can be twisted and turned around to suit your convenience. It is made of white silicon with an electro-luminescent polymer screen. It is white in colour and has a square-shaped luminescent source. The fun part of this is that it can be twisted around a pole or stand according to where you are seated. The design is also a good idea for parties where you can shape it according to your theme, for instance, a book worm. Nice idea.
