Four super carmakers unveil ultra futuristic concepts

futuristic_concept_car.jpg Four automobile companies have come up with ultra futuristic ideas that you may be lucky to see in a few years time, not just in movies but maybe even on the roads. First is the Mazda Motonari RX with a vision for 2050s thick with advances in molecular engineering, computing and artificial intelligence. It gets the name from legendary Japanese warrior Mori Motonari and characteristics and features are extremely mod and futuristic. Toyota’s Biomobile Mecha is a shape-shifting vehicle with nano-laser wheels, can read and adapt to changes in the environment and travel vertical pathways by means of biomimetic feet with powerful suction. Nissan’s OneOne combines personal mobility with the family robot concept. The vehicle can also assume various positions depending on the driving environment. It reclines to achieve greater speed, and it stands up to increase visibility and squeeze into tight spaces. Spooky Ear hangers for earrings

ear_hangers_4.jpg These are called 'ear hangers' and are designed by Atelier Van Lieshout (that’s a funny name!). It is supposed to be a pair of earrings that can both be worn or displayed as a sculpture. The uniqueness of this design is that the fused metal pieces are connected with body figures bent in different positions. It is extremely odd. It looks like alien fingers and if I wore it I would feel like my earrings are going to throttle and take my tonsils out. Spooky, extremely spooky.

Kragal Ladies handset with a phone and makeup kit

kragal_ladies_phone_1.jpg There is a lot of classification these days as compared to the past generation. Now it is all about classifying even the gender of products. On that note, the ladies phone Kragal handset that was created by Bulgarian designer Rumen Penev is a pretty neat idea. It is not only a phone but also includes a makeup kit hence being very apt for the gender. Its oval shape is feminine with the makeup kit at the back. It’s like you can be multi-tasking seriously with this device. Speaking on the phone, driving a car and applying makeup for your next meeting… it’s all there.

New laser, pen shaped mouse

laser_mouse.jpg The mouse was given the name because it looked like a mouse. But here’s a new mouse that is long and vertical shaped like a pen. The Scope Node wireless mouse was designed by Japanese manufacturer Elecom under their philosophy of rational design. They wanted to make the user feel like they are holding a pen. It has moved the ultra-sensitive laser directly under the pointer finger, rather than centering it, to make on-screen drawings more precise. The product is only available in Japan though so unless you live there you can just ogle at this picture. No prices given either

Frank Lloyd Wright Lego Architecture collection on display

lego_architecture.jpg I like Lego. It’s so much fun. It’s one thing that appeals to all ages, all castes, all religions, all everything. The Frank Lloyd Wright Lego Architecture collection is an example of why it appeals so much. This collections has the Lego architecture building sets, coinciding with his exhibition 'from within outward' at the guggenheim museum. The line consists of six buildings, including two of his most famous and recognizable buildings - the solomon r. guggenheim museum and 'fallingwater'. How nice. Someone should also think of making the seven wonders of the world, unless its already made and I am neglecting the news.

Berlin’s Spree Bridge Badeschiff winter bathing ship

winterbathingship.jpg When you have a beautiful nation filled with certain untidy spots, efforts must be made to work harder in finding a feasible solution where people can still enjoy their land even when nature stresses to oppose. In simple words, - when the Spree Bridge Badeschiff in Berlin, Germany got too polluted the inhabitants of the city got the option to swim in fresh water, but figuratively. Hence came this cool concept of a winter bathing ship. It was conceptualized and designed by an architect team from AMP Arquitectos who proposed a bridge to the Spree by floating a pool on it. A 30 year old barge was modified in a nearby dockyard. It was reduced to its shell and filled with preheated and chlorinated water to form a 32m long pool complemented with a wooden bridge and a sun terrace.

iChange concept car for the loner

ichange.jpg Tata's Nano was unveiled for the common man who wouldn’t mind making a trip to and fro work without the fear of getting wet in the rain or being thrown in the air when some big dude four-wheeler comes crashing on them. Swiss auto powerhouse Rinspeed has come up with a concept that isn’t same but is a little similar. The “iChange” is supposedly the world’s first car whose body adapts to the number of passengers on board. It is small and by the looks of it cozy enough with the looks of a sports car and not more than two people can sit inside at any given time – unless there are four of you and all together weigh 80kgs.

A chair of sails and ropes to relax

hellosailor.jpg This is a chair. It is made out of spare sail and some rope. What happened were the designers from KKA – Kjellgren Kaminsky Architecture in Sweden once went out sailing in the ocean outside Gothenburg. They then noticed, must have been out of beer, that the sails and ropes looked so soothing and calm in the soft breeze and thought that this was a nice idea to create a place to rest. So then after docking up they got some of the spare sail and some rope and ventured into creating this chair by threading the rope on steel tubes until the chair became rigid. They then sat and worked on this concept until it looked something like this.

A car that can fly too

ccc.jpg Ok, now tell me that this is supposed to be a design that we can believe in. A car that can turn into a helicopter… as in a flying car! I am not bluffing, the ZEEP Design showed this car that can transform into a helicopter. The car has got blades on the rotor that remains folded and out of sight when not in use. When it is in use, it will span out to convert it to a full-fledged copter alongside the tail rotor that’s generally tucked at the car’s rear comes out.

FlexiTube 2000 shelf system illuminates your room and looks good doing it

FlexiTube_2000.jpg I personally love shelves that are not your average Joe ones. I like something with a little bit of style and lots of personality and I believe the FlexiTube 2000 designed by Kisskalt Designsis just that. If you like circular objects, this shelf is going to be right up your alley. It is quite innovative how the different circles are put together to make a functional unit. It has a contemporary touch along with an abstract side. Its great that it comes with a circular fluorescent lamp between two plexiglass panes that brightens and illuminates your space.

SOM’s Dancing Line Chaise

som_dancing_line_chaise.jpg The Dancing Line was one of the ten commissioned designs by ten international leaders in this field. This was a project commissioned by the Formica Corporation as part of a group exhibit at Contemporary Arts Centre in Cincinnati, Ohio. All the pieces were eventually auctioned for the benefit of education and exhibition programming at the CAC. The requirement for the seating element was that the piece had to be fabricated using a Formica product. The white plastic laminate was used by SOM as this was the most recognizable product. SOM wanted to show the true nature of the product and hence by cladding only the top and bottom surfaces of the lounger, it left the core substrate made out of plywood exposed. The result was that the Formica lounger design fully expressed the plastic capabilities of the Formica material. The Dancing Line Chaise won the Spark Awards 2008: Furniture & Outdoor, Residential Category, Silver Award and Design Excellence Award 2008 from American Society of Interior Designers.
