Pump Up the Jam to power your iPhone

hand-grip1.jpg With the dual purpose of giving you a great hand workout and powering your iPhone, this neat contraption by Mac Funamizu will sure be a hit with the gym junkies! I can almost picture myself doing Pump Up the Jam and flexing my muscles!

Exotic mobile phone design

NamFleG_1.jpg Now I know many of you were in awe of the Vertu Void phone, but I tell you nothing beats the exotic platter of phones designed by Marat Kudryavtsev. Called NamFleG, the lustrous finish of these mobile phones really makes them look exclusive. The gold highlights and the slight curve of the back, gives them an edge. I don't know much about the configurations, but I bet they will look hip in any socialite's clutch!

LED Egg Lights, can't wait for 'em to disco and hatch!

egg_lights_1.jpg I really would love to know what inspired Igor Pinigin to design these LED Egg Lights. More than quirky, I'm amused at the concept of egg cartons hodling oblong lights. I can picture Farmer Mac holding these eggs to a light…wait a minute, the lights in them! No hatchlings Farmer Mac…only LED lights that assumes your hen's clutch! Freaky disco-licious fun!

Stone your iPod/iPhone

stone_1.jpg Don't stone it literally but enjoy the interesting twist behind the ideology of the Stone iPod/iPhone dock. Designer Ankoor Sahaii feels that this Stone dock represents the fact that we ultimately draw all our energies from mother earth, which is quite true. As he says, "The focus of the design is the point of view itself and the design process to interpret those terms of view point through the ideas above." Stone is a simple dock, which you can use for charging and for syncing data with your computer. However Ankoor also takes inspiration from the eagle, which breaks out its talons and beak to grow new ones, in order to survive to the prime age of 70.

Tizir Personal Computer looks really nice

Tizir_pc.jpg How personal do you want your computer to be? Many prefer a non-obtrusive device that just plays along to the whims. Others prefer the ultimate sophistication in gadgets with state-of-the-art technology. Given a choice I would prefer something like the Tizir Personal Computer by Volkan Soydan. Simple and neat the tablet style features a multi touch LCD screen that complements its acrylic finish. The panel and its peripherals look neat bundled together and hopefully I'll get something similar when I go in for an upgrade.

Porsche Mobiles…Racing ahead with style

porsche_cell_phones_1.jpg Mathew Zurlinden is currently working on some mobile phone designs, but what really makes me skip a beat is his Porsche styling. While the actual iteration of the phone has found many favors and brickbats, it's interesting to see this designer's take on the flamboyant car. I really like the red color phone, it's much better than the P'952 flip, which by the way, looks like a damp squib!

Tajine 2015, a melting pot of flavors

tajine2015_1.jpg I have never been to Morocco, but I have heard a lot about their unique cooking style in the Tajine. Those familiar with the cooking shows on Discovery would have probably come across this delightful pot in one of the shows. Tommaso Colia's Tajine 2015 is a mixture between the Tajine and the wok. His iteration ensures that the steam moving inside the ceramic pot cooks the food. The steam goes up, and it is able to warm and cook the food, which is situated on the steel cap at the top. According to the designer, "The purpose of this design is to allow people to take care of their health and avoid adulteration; this is the first and meaningful step toward a good diet."

Crystallized time- The Swarovski Crystal Watch

swarovski_cystal_watch_1.jpg I fancy owning an Omega or a Rolex one day, but imagine putting up a Swarovski watch on the wall! It does make a pretty picture and since it was a part of the Swarovski Design competition, it's worthy of mention! Designer Tommaso Colia has crafted a pure and essential object of desire. Marrying Swarovski crystal and steel, the watch features LCD technology to display the time in many different colors. It also packs in a USB connection with a little rechargeable battery in the bottom steel part. Hook it to the computer to charge the battery, and the watch can go on and on for many days. Crystallizing time, that's what I really like about this watch.

Discover your Weight, digit by digit

weighing_scale_1.jpg I know this may sound funny right now, but ask people like me who have had to battle the bulge since years. Stepping on the weighing scale can be a very traumatic experience for many. Many blame the excess on the wine and cheese last night, even lack of bowel movements have been blamed. But a lady's best excuse for the excess… It's that time of the month! Wicked! Mac Funamizu has designed a weighing scale that projects the numbers through a strategically placed slot to the floor below. The projection is in such a way that no one can peep above your shoulders to catch a glimpse. Those who have indulged in gluttony can simply place their foot above the slot and slowly drag your feet away, to reveal the numbers in slow motion. I told you…for fat people a trip to the weighing machine can be traumatic!

Philips- Nike MP3 designed by Teague

philips-nike_mp3.jpg Music has become an integral morale booster for athletes and there is no disputing this fact. Even an amateur like me feels better running to my fav list than simply running to a dead beat. I know Nike has partnered with Apple for the iPod Nike series, but here's an interesting twist to the tale. A Philips-Nike MP3 player for runners and athletes (even you an I qualify!), busting the apple myth! This wireless player has been designed by Teague and the device features, as expected, distance and speed sensors. It promises skip-free audio and complimentary MP3 CD's shock resistant technology. The no-look controls belt and stroke light are for the serious ones who prefer an uninterrupted workout.

Mel@Book a notebook that's not an Apple

mel@book_1.jpg Besides it's shape and styling the Mel@Book by Stefano Marchetto is a cheeky take on our Apple favorite. The lappie packs in a lot of features that will make Jobs truly proud of Stefano's endeavor. It sports an apple shape, a big LCD screen, two speakers on either side of the screen, a printer and scanner on the bottom of the notebook and a DVD/CD slot as well. The keypad is quite unique and offers a comfortable stance. There is a glass tray like slider that slides out the right side of the laptop, that I suppose is to hold your drink and snack that you munch while you work. No laptop is complete without a webcam and this one too has it. Overall a cool concept, only I don't like the look of a man carrying an Apple on him! Wicked!

Movies on the go…portable Toshiba Blu Ray Hard Disk

toshiba_blu-ray_harddisk.jpg Blu-Ray is here to stay and hopefully no new technology will come to usurp its position anytime soon. This theory will go on to support designer dreams like this Toshiba Blu Ray Hard Disk by Jinwoo Han. Top of the specs is the Blu-ray Super Multi Drive, and following suit is the 500GB Hard Drive memory. It also supports DVD and CD plus read and writes disks at very commendable speeds. The simple black device looks hot with its yellow trims.

Keyless Phone believes in Visual Effects

keyless_phone_1.jpg Sight is the key to all your senses. It not only compliments them but also enhances your experiences of touch, smell and taste. What if I were to give you a phone that had no keys or buttons to push. No, not the touchphone-types; but a phone that required visual aid as well as the physical one. Enrico Pandolfini has designed a phone concept that requires you to use it without watching the keys but recognize them by just touching them. This mobile phone includes nice visual effects to put on a great lights-show!
