Biker's Paradise: Ferrari V4 superbike concept

ferrari_v4_superbike_1.jpg The biking history has seen many one-off designs that have either been commemorative or simply fantasies that regaled all biking fans. Ferrari too has had its fair share of concepts and commemorations, but this particular flight-of-fantasy seems to be the best of them all. Israeli designer Amir Glinik has created this sleek monster that finds its design based on the theoretical application of the Ferrari Enzo's V12 engine. The mod reduces the cylinders to four and is modified to drive just one wheel in a motorcycle frame.

Taboo makes your heart grow fonder of clean, pure environment

taboo-1.jpg We don't live in Utopia; hence have to battle bad weather conditions, pollution and harsh conditions on a daily basis. This naturally takes a toll on our health, mental state and performance on tasks. However there are still some designers who believe that gadgets with special abilities can ease our environmental plights. Taboo is a system designed by Marcello Cannarsa for Samsung Young Design Awards. The device features sensors that read the characteristics of the atmosphere (like pressure, humidity and temperature), plus the quality of the air (oxygen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, levels) and the level of noise pollution, in order to estimate the contamination in the atmosphere. Selachimorpha Bin makes waste disposal a fun game

selachimorpha_bin_1.jpg You're on the beach and taking a long leisurely walk. As you stride further, you decide to take off your shoes and enjoy the sand barefoot. The twist in this tale is that beaches these days are getting so dirty because of the rubbish strewn all over the place by us careless humans. We haven't spared the Himalayas so how can you expect clean roads or beaches? Martina Pagura concept for a trash bin incorporates a fun factor that will not only involve kids in the clean-up process but also inculcate the habit of proper waste disposal. The Selachimorpha is a digitalized bin that sports a screen on the face of it that keeps the scores for the teams. The chute of the bin is fashioned in such a way, that kids (or adults) can score points for every successful basket (as in basketball) dunked with garbage. This ways, the surroundings stay neat and tidy and the fun-factor in waste disposal creeps in. New age basketball that is a necessity!

Anger Management tip of the day: Punch the L!ghting

punching_bag_1.jpg Frustration levels run quite high when one is stressed. The biggest relief comes when you punch something hard and release all the tensions. The only repercussion is that your knuckles take a beating and you are sore all over again. As a child I remember owing a punching inflatable joker, which had a funny-squeaky nose. You punched it hard on the nose and it would squeak and dip over to the other side. It bought out peals of laughter amongst my friends and me. Taking a similar stance is the punching light by designers Jun Bum Park and Kim Jin Sook. Based on the mantra Slow is Stress+Low, the bag lights up every time you knock in a blow. A really cool design that could bring about much relief amongst stressed out people.

Stampa portable e-map directs you precisely to your location

stampa_e-map_1.jpg The best part about traveling independently and not in group-tours is that you get to explore the city at your own pace. However the biggest bummer in this situation is deciphering of maps and trying to reach your destination intact. Most of us look ridiculous pouring over maps and guidebook, making us gullible targets for pickpockets and thieves. Stampa is a device that reduces your dependency on the map book, and gives you the precise information you need by doing away with the extras. All you need to do is run the device over the portion of the map that you want uploaded and it stores that info. You can even upload the maps or areas of interest from local newspapers and guide books in the privacy of your room, prior to the outing.

Oz - personal digital portable oxygenator for Samsung

samsung_oxygenator_1.jpg Pollution and stress are two things that contribute immensely to a wilted complexion. Half of our spa-treatment bills and beauty product usage would be reduced if we had clean oxygenated air to pamper our skins with. I am aware that many Oxygen bars have surfaced, but it has a very constrictive atmosphere, where one is confined to a room or a personal space. Designer Kwan young Lee has a very innovative approach with the Samsung OZ, a personal digital portable oxygenator. The device not only monitors you oxygen levels based upon your inhaled and exhaled air, it also provides you with the blast of pure oxygen to keep you refreshed. The best part is that this gadget is solar rechargeable, just wear it around your neck and your ready to go!

Samsung Smart Camera is intelligent and intuitive

samsung_smart_camera_1.jpg The usual chrome orb belies the fact that is a camera and not some showpiece; The Smart Camera is an intelligent piece of equipment that has the capability to shoot previously chosen targets. Fitted with sound and motion detectors, the camera finds and then shoots still or videos of the target. To brief the camera about the target, one has to hook it up to a comp (via USB) and import a picture from it to the camera. The camera then triggers off whenever the chosen picture (or sound) comes within perspective. In the "free roam" mode, the camera scans the environment and reacts on any movement or noise. The motion and audio sensors can be modified so that the camera captures every bit of sound.

Instrument Laptop beyond 2011 is the ultimate portable

instrument_laptop_1.jpg Laptops are meant to be portable, but many of us have ours transfixed to our workstations all the time. Maybe out of sheer laziness or not finding it necessary to lug our pieces, this portable creature has become a permanent fixture instead. However designer Johannes Holl envisages the future as a hectic schedule for busy execs who will require hauling their lappies all around town. Even the time spent in commute will be filled with you working on the comp. Actually that's not such a far-fetched idea; I can picture myself blogging on the go whilst stuck in major traffic jams!

Vertical Surface Communities designed by Jan Lim

Vertical_Surface_Communities.jpg An architect's dream is to build a community that thrives on the essence of space and can still communicate and interact with other members of the society. People living in ultra modern setups, have notions of exclusivity and connectivity with the environment that surrounds them. The Vertical Surface Communities designed by Jan Lim takes on the challenges of urban housing in the Asian continent where space is at a premium that most commoners cannot afford.

Vitalia blooms with concentration, wilts with deviation

Vitalia_blooms.jpg To sum it all up Vitalia is a friendly machine that "feels" like you, arouses emotions, helps you learn and has many facets. Essentially I have just strung together German designer Ellen Herzog's description for this wonderful light concept, that blooms like a flower when the optimum conditions are available for a child to do concentrated work like studies. A conducive environment is always beneficial for learning, and no one knows it better that a mother like me, who has to struggle with the kids to sit down for a session of serious studies. Even in classrooms, teachers are always at on their toes, coping with the lack of efforts by indifferent children. The Vitalia shows the pupils whether air and light quality surrounding them are conducive enough for work.
